Well, 3 more books came out yesterday. Fractured Mirror, Ghosts That Hath Whispered and Bad Kiss. Three very different stories that set up the endgame of season one, which is where we are now. 3 books left this season... That's it! Season 2 on the horizon...
Hope you enjoy them, I'm looking to have book 1.14 out by end of April.Read more >
So, it is that time of year again... 2 books out this December, three more planned for the first half of 2017. :-)
More recently I've been using Twitter more to try and raise chronicles profile... Sony, if you're listening, you're still my number one choice, movies, games and TV shows all under one umbrella...
Still best get back to work...Read more >
soooo.... 1.08 is out today!
that makes FOUR books released this month! phew, next book, Phoenix, will be released around xmas time!Read more >
Well, that's the second edit of The Cut Throat World of Business completed... phew!
Should be able to get this thing out in time for my November 5th deadline, in fact if things go well I might get this out this weekend! (no promises!)Read more >
Well look at that, another book on its way, another edit finished. really feel in a groove right now, getting lots done, and this is the proof...
The Cut Throat World Of Business is a NightShade tale... yep, no Ejjina, Jovan, Ovath, Velelsis, Tonga Braakl, etc in this one! Nope! In this we follow those dark agents we met back in 1.02 Agents, specifically, this is Como's story.
The book will delve into secrets going on behind the scenes, things the crew of the Seraphic do not get to see, things will be revealed that are very dangerous, not only for como, but have far reaching consequences...Read more >
well, I said I had a short story to write, and this little bugger has plagued me for about 4 years... but I've just sent it to the publishers!
The Transcendent Ones will be out tomorrow! a day ahead of schedule! (take that grrm!)
next... Duquam! which I hope to finish editing and release by the beginning of November!Read more >
Well, Eulogies was released on my birthday (1st October) as intended! Whoo hoo!
in the week since i have written a short story about the first contact wit the Pyntaxian's, an idea I have played around with for quite some time now, I just finished the first draft of it and am going to go right into editing this, hopefully have this thing out by the end of this week! if so I can jump straight into editing Duquam with the aim to releasing that in the first half of November.
that'll be three books/ stories in about 2 months! phew!Read more >
alrught people... listen up and listen good... Eulogies is just about ready to release!
that's right, you heard it!
I'll release Eulogies on my birthday, 1st October!Read more >
well, after a monumental week I have finished the first edit of Eulogies! yay! going to break for lunch - the start the second edit! wish me luck!Read more >
and so I've just managed to finish a 1st draft of the book formerly known as "the Isnochys" - now changed to "The Unspeakable Three" in just two weeks! sending these kids off to school is a great idea, without the distractions I have a few hours to crush on writing each day and the results speak for themselves.
this book is really the final piece in the "second act" picture. it makes is one of the last pieces of the foundation that need to be laid in season one, allowing me to build on those foundations, really messing things up and screwing people around in season two!
why the name change?
well, it struck me that "the isnochys" is not a particularly marketable title - but the unspeakable three is! hence the chance - purely cosmetic - and I a…Read more >
and so the fourth 1st draft of the summer is completed on the last day of the summer holidays! whoo hoo!
Phoenix Rising is finished - well, draft 1 anyway!
so... tomorrow the editing begins! First up... Eulogies!Read more >
Well i'm *this close* to finishing the fourth book of the summer..... 1st draft of each onviously... But , man i can almost taste it!
Once this is finished my kids will be at school and i can devote some time to editing.... And maybe a little writing in there too! ;-)Read more >
well... it has officially been 2-years since the first Seraphic Chronicles book Rhapsody went on sale... and what a 2-years it has been. there have been highs (seeing positive sales and reviews) and lows (bad reviews) but what a wonderful time i have had writing the stories that have been in my head since I was a teenager!
so, what am I doing to celebrate this momentous occasion???? writing of course.
At present I'm entering the fun part of book 1.09 Phoenix Rising, and after this i'll be looking to jump into the editing process of book 1.06 Eulogies... then 1.07 Duquam... Then 1.08 The Cut Throat World of Business... then finally, back to 1.09 Phoenix Rising... and at some point I will begin wok on book 1.10! So, lots to do!Read more >
so.... been a while since I wrote anything on here.... that's not a problem I hope... been busy! between kids, wife, life, holidays, school holidays, and generally trying to get books written this little "blog" hadn't seen much action has it! hmm.... might have to do something about that!
Anyway, in the last few months I've written the first drafts for Eulogies, Duquam, The Cut Throat World of Business and I'm well into Phoenix Rising.... so yeah, 4 books at a good stage of development and my MASTER PLAN is to finish the d1st drafts so I can work on them editing wise when the kids are back at school and I can (hopefully) find a job to work around their schedule!
with that done I'm hoping at least 2 of these books can be released in time for …Read more >
Okay so the easter holidays are drawing to a close! this is a good thing, after two weeks my kids will be back at school, which gives me an extra few hours each day to write (in theory at least).
The new book, Eulogies, is coming along nicely... but slowly. I'm building a new world and a new species, introducing new characters, it all takes time. particularly with the kids in the house, hopefully that process will pick up now!Read more >
what a crazy week it has been!
many, many, MANY hours spent editing The Mists ready for release, which has now been done, it's out there, available, ready for consumption!
On to Eulogies!
only umpteen more to go!Read more >
and after a mind numbing week I have finished the second edit of The Mists. hopefully this means I can get it out in double quick time as the kids finish school for easter in 2 days (same day the wife finishes her job) so we'll have a houseful after that!
this has not been my favourite tory to write, it is one of those that sets up a lot going forward... not to say it's dull, it's just not the story I want to write... it's the one that sets up the one's I want to write... so got to get through this!
today was a good day. got 3 chapters edited in The Mists and got a whole lot done on this wiki.
all this while kids at home and watched 2 episodes of Vikings (decent show) and The Raid (good action film) whilst working.
the bad news though... Arsenal could not make history, same old same old with them, knocked out in last 16 of champions league despite winning second leg... sigh.Read more >
Today, after a massive few days, i've finishrd the first efit of The Mists.
Will probably start edit 2 on mondayRead more >
My apologies for my recent silence. there are many reasons, burnout, family holidays, illness, etc but this is no reason to not update this site really.
I have finished the first draft of The Mists and started work on a pet project of mine, not Seraphic related at all, but it is something I have dreamt of for quite some time, it feels like something that needs to come out.
Sooner or later I will get back to The Mists... and then continue the stories in season one!Read more >
When I was a young teenager I happened to walk downstairs whilst my father was channel hopping, he ended up on a 1960’s sci-fi show called “Star Trek” and episode called ‘Metamorphosis’. I was enthralled by the story, the characters, the triad of Spock, Bones and Kirk, the optimism, the themes, I loved it all and made sure to tune in a week later. And the week after that.
Soon I was a bone fide Trekkie.
That fandom started an interest in writing Star Trek stories, which led directly to writing The Seraphic Chronicles.
My favourite film is, almost inevitably, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, a story in which Spock plays a central role and whose death is the ultimate crescendo of the film. Leonard Nimoy might have ad other roles but he will alw…Read more >
well, i have been working on The Mists and the follow up Caravanserai for a couple of weeks now... and something about both stories (mainly the caravanserai one) didn't ring true and felt... well, shit actually.
then I have a brain wave yesterday!
so, caravanserai has been scrubbed, half its plot erased and the other half, about six chapters, added to the end of The Mists... and suddenly the 2 books collapsed into 1 seems a lot more reasonable.
it is a small change really, but its making the whole episode seem a lot more palatable and that is what was needed. The Mists will be a better story,Read more >
and that's another one in the bag! the first draft of The Mists is done.
I think i'll move straight into 1.06 caravanserai before going into the edit, as they are companion pieces.Read more >
Hello and gappy new year.
Well xmas in the atkinson house was a dull and lifeless affair... As we were in disneyland paris... And yes it was awesome... And yes i did do some writing (even on xmas day)!!!
New years however... Eek. The last qeek has seen me sick and feverish. As lifeless and lathargic as i can ever remember being.
But now i'm home and on the mend... And writing has started afresh.Read more >
Well today I have managed to make some progress with The Mists. it is a difficult book to write for me as it is not one I am super excited about, but it is merely one of those functional tales that must be told in order for the overall tale to continue.
Story wise and structurally this is the closest of all the season one stories to an episode of star trek - something I am actively trying to avoid, but in this case it is necessary.
It should be a nice little story... now I am over the slump I'm quite excited about the possibilities playing out over the rest of the book... I just need to bring the story elements together.Read more >
well today has been a day of bits and starts... after catching up on what I had written on The Mists today I did... oh about 2 paragraphs! grr! what kept me off the laptop? well, in short, life. My daughters ballet and tap certification, picking the kids up from school, xmas lights turned on in the local center, and watching the last 2 episodes of The Strain (love del toro's work!)
might get some more done this evening!Read more >
well, i have now exhausted all the books I had written first drafts of... (yes that's how I bring out 4 books in relatively quick succession)... so now I'm back into writing again!
I tell a lie... I have written about 15-20 pages of The Mists... not a lot really, but I have re-read it and familiarized myself with it again, and tomorrow i'll start writing the first new pages of Chronicles work in a good long while. No more editing for a few weeks... yay!
The Mists is far more "star Trek-y" than anything else I have ever written, but it is a necessary story to tell, as it impacts the next book enormously, they could almost be a 2-parter, and has massive implications for what happens in season 3! (now that is long term planning!)
it's all part o…Read more >
hail be to... erm... well me I suppose.
The Kingdom of Skulls is now out and available on kindle. ;-) yes that makes 4 books in 2014, which is more than I expected.
'The Mists' will be next, look for that to be out in the first half of 2015, I'm not setting a target as I haven't actually written it yet, let alone edited it.Read more >
3rd edit of The Kingdom of Skulls is finished... its edging ever closer!
with that... bedtime!!!!Read more >
right then, editing is hard and I hate it, but it improves the books so.... grrr.... gotta be done. I aim to do 3 chapters a day, but that has slowed so far this week, at the present its more like 1 or 2 chapters a day.
the kingdom of skulls is a little bit different to what has come before, we're really in the "star trek" part of the overall story, lots of exploring, setting up things that will have massive implications. its the foundation of the "real" story that will take place in subsequent years...
so, also updating this wiki, which is as much for my own notes, keeping the story straight and ensuring the information you read in the books makes sense, as anything else.
lots of stuff going on, subsequent books being planned out, short stor…Read more >
well, that's the first edit of "The Kingdom of skulls" done... and what a lot of work it needs!
Still, fun to be getting through the pages. new characters, new aliens, deaths, battles, character twists and setting up stuff that will resonate through season one and beyond.Read more >
well, the edit of "The Kingdom of Skulls" continues... which means bit by bit this wiki will grow and expand.
The Kingdom of Skulls is based primarily around the discovery of 2 new alien species, species that have been at are with each other in the Bregenna Expanse. Season one can get very "star Trey-y" and this is one of those episodes... it was planned as a 2-parter actually, but (in my mind at least) is still fun and introduces a lot of storylines, characters and themes that continue throughout the rest of season one and beyond.Read more >
at some point i know i have to go back and re-edit some of my earlier books (Oblivion and Birth of a Starship) to bring them into line with the rest of the books quality wise, I know they were as rushed attempt due to computer problems I was having at home... my fault, should have been more patient.
live and learn.
so with "Doubt.." out there now I'm now heading into "The Kingdom of Skulls" with a March 2015 release date in my head, its a big(ish) book, but has already been written, the first draft is out of the way, so the editing process has begun. (4 chapters done so far!)
so season one is well underway... just need to keep on it. At this pace (3 books a year) it should only take about 7 years to bring out all of season one... gulp!Read more >
okay so despite having 3 sick family members and guests over for the weekend I still managed to complete the "Doubt..." wiki edit and upload the files and cobble together an omnibus of the Ejjina trilogy... that is what you call hard work, just waiting for these proofs to be finalized and they will be available... that will make 3 brand new books out this year and one kinda, sorta reprint! really happy with that output!
next up, 1.04 "The Kingdom of Skulls" - a much longer book that the previous two, so will take longer for this one to come out, definitely not happening before xmas!
however I do keep thinking that maybe I might try the tonga Braakl origin story I've been contemplating...Read more >
Well today has been a good day. Finished the "wiki edit" of "doubt..." And also cobbled togather an omnibus edution of the ejjina trilogy. Both should be hitting the shelves (so to speak) soon.Read more >
yep, finished the second edit of "Doubt" today, and I'm straight into what I like to call "the wiki edit". that is, going through each page and updating this wiki to keep it up to date for my use when it comes to future writing. a lot of the stuff is menial, one-off characters being logged for instance, but it is all part of the larger scheme of things.
so expect a few pages to grow substantially in the next few days, new pages to be created, etc. in some ways this is quite a time consuming aspect, but I quite enjoy it, ensuring the wiki is up to date allows me to check facts quickly and easily (eye colour, etc) rather than finding a file on the laptop and waiting for it to open, the scrolling down... ugh, this is much easier!
anyway... aft…Read more >
well i have finished the first edit for doubt that the stars are fire and i have to say it's better than i expected it to be at this stage of the game.
doubt that the stars are fire picks up after the events of screaming into the night and agents. it marks a bit of a departure for me as it takes place all in one day and is slightly more romantic and humorous in my usual fare hopefully anyway.
if all goes well then this new book should be out in time for christmas...... there i've said it now... you wait it won't be out for months and months and months!!!!!Read more >
Well today the first reviews for SITN came out... Two 5* reviews!!! Wow!
In addition.... Sumbitted the Agents file for review - should be available in a few days!Read more >
Well you would never have guessed it but i've managed the first edit of agents in 2 days.... Very unlike me!
What to do now?
Vest crack on with writing more books!Read more >
today is one of those days! one of those that you think would better be spent doing almost anything else!
bad day. grr.
still, at least I can say I got SITN out on paperback and kindle now. ;-) one book down, about 129 to go.
best get cracking.Read more >
well, actually... here: []
the kindle format of SITN has been released today, the paperback version should follow up pretty soon. Hope everyone enjoys.... best start looking into that pesky paperback and then crack on with Agents!Read more >
Just finished the third edit of SITN!!!
So... New book coming soon!Read more >
Well editing is taking place once more. Got loads done this week so far and I'm fast approaching a quarter of the wy through my final "content edit" - after this I have my formatting and wiki updating to do and we're ready to publish!!Read more >
So this week has soon some major positives. Finished 3rd edit of sign and started looking at book 5 "the mists"... Which is a long way off but fun to look at anyway. 4th edit of sign will start on Monday after family have visited for weekend - so probably won't get much done before then.
Worst part is in gonna miss arsenal v Chelsea!Read more >
Thats it! Done! 3rd edit is in the bag! Can now rest up on my birthday and start 4tg edit afterwards!!!!!Read more >
OK guys and gals, this last week has been a HUGE one for editing SITN and I'm now much more confident of hitting my Xmas deadline. :-)
That said, with it now being the weekend, arsenal are playing we're taking a family trip to the cinema (muppets!) And there is shopping to be done... So the likelihood of me getting much done today is slim... And I'm guessing tomorrow will be similar. I'm now hoping to have edit 3 in the bag by Wednesday (my birthday) and after that... Well I have lots to write and then edit 4 to start!!!Read more >
well we're right in the middle of the third edit of SITN, but its SLOW going at the moment and I'm also looking into another series of books (more alternate history than science fiction) which is a lot of fun, add to that 2 children to look after and it is crawling pace, but I think I can still get SITN out in time for Christmas, which is the plan at the moment, however Agents and DTTSAF are looking like they might have to be put back to 2015 releases. After Oblivion I don't want to rush things and put out something I'm not happy with.
In other news, Arsenal won! Yay! And I spent the weekend at the in-law's working on their garden, which has led to a sore, but satisfied start to the week.Read more >
well here we are, the second edit of SITN is complete!
although I now feel that this story is very similar to Oblivion that cannot be helped, the story has to be told this way, the outcome shatters the universe we have created and builds up a new one in its place. less death and destruction, more a paradigm shift.... although there is plenty of death, destruction action and mayhem in it I assure you!
and a new bad guy!
right, I'm going to enjoy my afternoon with the kids and then make my way to the cinema to see how to train your dragon 2! so excited!
after that we'll crack on with editing agents and then doubt that the stars are fire and then back to SITN for the final edit!Read more >
not edited much in last couple of days, but now I'm up to chapter fourteen of SITN, have finished the first drafts of books 2 and 3, have got ideas for books 4 and beyond.... things are coming together and I definitely think i'll get the books out in time for xmas. SITN should be out in time for September I hope.
enjoying the world cup, Hannibal, game of thrones, shut down the business as it was loosing money from day one as locals not into it, good idea, just wrong place and time. ah well. books are where I belong. ;-)Read more >
so, that is agents in the bag!
managed to motor through the final chapters thanks to the inspiring world cup action and a lack of distractions!
that is first drafts of 1.01, 1.02 and 1.03 done, just editing to finish! hopefully can get all 3 out for xmas, might even get started on drafts for 1.04!Read more >
